Overview
The IIoTSys PW40-DC connects one RS232 serial interface to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network and supports BLE 5.0. It is intended for serial equipment in industrial automation, power and energy, rail transit, public facilities, and building control. This DC-powered variant accepts 9–48 VDC @ 1 A. The processor runs at 160 MHz with 8 MB Flash, 352 KB SDRAM, and the mbed operating system.
The Wi-Fi interface supports IEEE 802.11 b/g/n over 2.412–2.472 GHz and uses an SMA external antenna connection. STA mode connects the device to a wireless router. AP mode lets a host connect directly to the device. Simultaneous AP+STA mode supports both interfaces, with separate IP subnets for AP and STA. In AP+STA mode, the STA interface needs a router connection. Repeated router scans can otherwise disrupt AP traffic and cause data loss.
BLE provides two functions: app-based BLE provisioning and bidirectional Bluetooth–serial data transmission. BLE is therefore available for serial data exchange as well as network setup. App-based Wi-Fi provisioning is also supported. These functions provide alternatives to configuration through the web interface or companion configuration software.
For network integration, the device supports TCP, UDP, MQTT, HTTP, WebSocket, and virtual serial port modes. Bidirectional Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU conversion supports timed acquisition and data format conversion. Serial framing includes 7 or 8 data bits, 1 or 2 stop bits, and None, Even, or Odd parity. Software Xon/Xoff flow control is available; hardware flow control is not supported. Connect RX to the equipment TX, TX to the equipment RX, and GND to GND. The shared GND connection is required.
Configuration options include web pages, serial CLI commands, XML file import, Telnet, and companion configuration software. The documented security options include TLS 1.2, AES-128, and DES3. Registration packets and heartbeat packets support connection maintenance. Firmware updates are available through the web interface, companion configuration software, and wireless OTA.
The enclosure measures 102.03 × 64.95 × 27.50 mm and mounts on a C45 guide rail. The specified operating temperature is −40 to +85 °C. Net, Active, Power, and Link indicators show network, serial, supply, and server-channel status. A short press of Reload enters app-based provisioning; holding it for more than 4 seconds and releasing it restores factory settings. Reset performs a hardware reset.
